Writing and Editing Posts

I added the ability to post on the front end so it would be easier to post on mobile. This is my first time trying  it out. It’s in navigation menu>post

https://hartshub.com/post/

The other method is the plus symbol in the black user bar at the top of the page. You have to  be logged in to see it. That one has way more options for what to add to posts but it’s harder to use on mobile.

About & FAQ

What is this place?

Harts Hub is all about connecting the people of Hartsville and the surrounding area. The goal is to bring groups of people together to share their hobbies and interests. It can be a place where you post about the happenings in our community or where you just post blogs on topics that interest you. If you see an improvement that needs to be considered, don’t hesitate to comment below.

Right now Harts Hub is in its infancy. It needs dedicated users to post regularly so that it can grow. The majority of people won’t hang around for a new community hub. As people post more it will grow organically into what we need it to be. You could be someone who helps it grow while its still not much more than an idea.

Why not just use social media?

It’s past time for people to take communication out of the hands of big tech and center it in our own communities. We deserve a way to connect that doesn’t involve harvesting our data to use against us. This site doesn’t make money off of you. It exists as a labor of love for our community. When the need for money arises the plan is to rely on donations and volunteer help.

How do you use the site?

To post simply click the plus symbol in the black bar up top and click “post”. It will take you to a simple page for adding a post. On the right side of the post page you will see settings for the post. Choose a category before you publish. You can also choose tags and you can save your post as a draft.

If you just want to browse you can choose a category in the navigation menu. categories can be added or removed as needed. Time will tell what makes sense as a category. As soon as people start creating tags there will be a way to navigate posts by tags. Think of tags like mini categories that you can create yourself instead of needing a category created.

Why won’t my post/comment show up?

New members need any combination of three post/comments to be approved manually. After that you can post whatever without having to wait.

What is the Forums section?

Forums is a beta section that works best in light theme (choose light or dark theme at the bottom of any page). Its set up like an old style internet forum. It might be a great place for chit chat or it might become dystopian and need to be turned off. If it takes off well enough it will need moderators. We can cross that bridge together when we get there.

Rules?

Let’s keep it simple for now.

1. Don’t be a jerk – This doesn’t mean you can’t be negative. You can criticize topics and disagree with people as long as you remain civil.

2. No Discrimination – Everyone must be treated with respect. No discrimination, harassment, or hateful behavior based on race, ethnicity, religion or lack thereof, disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity (including being transgender).

3. No Spam – Don’t post spam, scams.

4. No Illegal Content – Don’t use the site to post or promote illegal content or activities.

5. No Nudity or Sexual Content – Keep sexual or explicit content off the site.

To Journal for My Good

I started keeping a journal after a therapist suggested I write affirmations and letters to people—letter’s that only I would ever see. The therapist never even mentioned keeping a full on journal; it just worked out that way for me. Some times I write daily about whatever is going on in life. Other times I might go a week without writing. It’s just all depending on how I feel.

My favorite types of journals are the ones without lines. It makes me feel free. I can write as big our small as I want and draw anything I want with out lines getting in the way. I’m not much of a drawer but it does tend to happen.

Kalmia Gardens – A Group Idea

Kalmia Gardens is a beautiful botanical garden with great trails. It’s one of my favorite places in Hartsville.

I believe getting out into nature is important for everyone’s mental health. If not everyone’s, it’s certainly good for mine.

This is a great place to start up a walking or running club. I know I would be interested if others are. Maybe not the running though.

There’s a group function if you click your avatar. You can set them to private, public, or hidden. It could be a great way to organize clubs. If you try it out let me know what works and what doesn’t.

There’s so much more to do at the library than just read. There are activities for kids, teens, and adults. Hartsville Memorial Library is part of the Darlington County Library System and SC Lends, giving our community access to millions of books from 24 different libraries across SC.
